Exporting contacts from Microsoft Outlook

Summary

When you're exporting a contact list from an email client in preparation for uploading that list into your account, you'll need to make sure that your email client supports exporting to either an Excel spreadsheet or a Comma Separated Values (.csv) file.

Microsoft Outlook can support exporting to both types of files, and we provide instructions on how to do so for different versions.

Outlook 2013/2016

  1. From the File tab, click Open & Export > Import/Export.
  2. Choose Export to a file and click Next.
  3. Choose either Comma Separated Values and click Next.
  4. In the 'Select folder to export from' box, select the Contacts folder that's under your account and click Next.
  5. Under 'Save exported file as', click the Browse button to choose the folder to put the exported file into, enter the file name, and click OK
  6. In the 'Export to a File' window, confirm where your new exported contacts file will be saved by clicking Next.
  7. Click Finish.

Outlook 2010

  1. From the File tab, click Options.
  2. From the 'Outlook Options' window, click Advanced.
  3. Under 'Export', click Export.
  4. From the 'Import and Export wizard', choose Export to a file and click Next.
  5. Choose the file type.
    You can choose either Comma Separated Values (Windows), or Microsoft Excel. After doing so, click Next.
  6. In the 'Select folder to export from' box, select the Contacts folder that's under your account and click Next.
  7. Under 'Save exported file as', click the Browse button to choose the folder to put the exported file into, enter the file name, and click OK
  8. In the 'Export to a File' window, click Next.
  9. Click Finish.

Outlook 2007

  1. From the File menu, click Import and Export.
  2. Select Export to a file and click Next.
  3. Choose the file type.
    You can choose either Comma Separated Values (Windows), or Microsoft Excel. After doing so, click Next.
  4. In the 'Select folder to export from' box, select the Contacts folder that's under your account and click Next.
  5. Click Browse to choose the folder to put the exported file into, enter the file name, and click OK
  6. Click Next.
  7. Click Finish.

Outlook Express

  1. From the File menu, choose Export then Address Book.
  2. Click Text File (Comma Separated Values), and then click Export.
  3. Enter the desired file name and click Next.
    You can also click the Browse button to choose the folder into which the exported file will be put.
  4. Choose the fields that you want to include for contacts in the file and click Finish.
