Summary

You have the ability to easily add various types of useful links to your campaign. This is done by clicking on the Link button in EasyEditor's toolbar (available when working on text or images).

Clicking on Link will produce the 'Add a link' window.

This has options to add hyperlinks to web pages, email links, a link to a preference centre, an unsubscribe link, a 'View in browser' link, a double opt-in link, anchor links that take readers to another part of the email, document links, microsite links, landing page links, as well as links to surveys or forms.

Click on the type of link you want to add. The link setup details you'll need to complete will differ depending upon the link type. After completing those details, click Insert.

This article explains how to set up these different link types.

Do you want to add a link to a button? Click on the button and then click on Add a link in the button settings side panel, which will open the 'Add a link' window.

Adding a hyperlink

When adding hyperlinks to your campaign, you have the choice of either:

  • typing the link's text into your campaign, selecting the text and then clicking the Link button, which will open the 'Add a link' window with the text already in the 'Text' field
  • or, click your mouse where you want the text link to appear, click Link and then enter the link's text into the 'Text' field within the 'Add a link' window

A standard link to a webpage can have the following elements set when added:

  • Text - the word or words in the campaign that should be linked
  • Link - the URL of the page you want to link to. Click on Visit to check the URL that you've entered works.
  • Link groups - use link grouping to group various links from your campaigns together, which benefits your link click reporting and link click segmentation
  • Link name - the keyword to be used to refer to the link, so that you can easily track which links have been clicked on when you’re viewing reporting
  • Do not track this link - tick this if you don't want our application to track clicks on this link
A hyperlink can also be added to an image. You can set the same elements as above except for text.

Adding an email address link

When an email link is added to a campaign and clicked on, it will open an email from the contact to a specified email address with a specified subject line.

A link to an email address can have the following elements set when added:

  • Text - the words that should be linked
  • Email address - the email address you want to link to
  • Email subject - the default subject line you want contacts to use (they may overwrite this)

Adding a 'Forward to a friend' link

When a 'Forward to a friend' link is added to a campaign and clicked on, it will open a form for the user to forward the email to friends or colleagues (up to a maximum of five).

A 'Forward to a friend' link can have the following elements set when added:

  • Text - the words that should be linked

  • Customisation: Please talk to your account manager if you require a customised 'Forward to a friend' page to discuss options and costs.

We can rebrand this page so it is similar to your website, or we can simply place your logo on the page. When we rebrand this page for you, we also rebrand your 'Unsubscribe' page as well.

Adding a preference centre ('update my details') link

Preference centres aren't available for US accounts

Only the one-click unsubscribe page will display for US accounts, in order to comply with CAN-SPAM legislation.

If the preference centre option isn't already enabled in your account settings (see Adding an unsubscribe link below), then you can add a link to your campaign for a preference centre.

A preference centre link can have the following elements set when added:

  • Text - the words that should be linked

Adding an unsubscribe link

All of our templates include an unsubscribe link by default in order to adhere to spam laws, but you may find you need to add an unsubscribe link elsewhere into your campaign.

When an unsubscribe link is added to a campaign and clicked on, what it links to will depend upon the unsubscribe settings your account has. This is set under the 'Features' section in Account > Account settings.

If 'Show the Preference Centre when a contact unsubscribes' is enabled, then all clicks on unsubscribe links will take a contact through to the preference centre.

As such, you can effectively add a 'preference centre' link by inserting an unsubscribe link and making the text 'Update your details', 'Want to change your details?' or something similar.

Please note that only the one-click unsubscribe page will display for US accounts.

An unsubscribe link can have the following elements set when added:

  • Text - the words that should be linked

  • Translations: This page, as well as the 'Forward to a friend' page, is automatically translated into 20 different languages, depending on the individual recipient's language settings set on their PC.

  • Customisation: Please talk to your account manager if you require a customised 'Unsubscribe' page to discuss options and costs.

We can rebrand this page so it is similar to your website, or we can simply place your logo on the page. When we rebrand this page for you, we also rebrand your 'Forward to a friend' page as well.

Adding a 'View in browser'/'Can't read email' link

When a 'View in browser'/'Can't read email' link is added to a campaign and clicked on, it will open a webpage with the contact's version of the campaign displayed.

A 'View in browser' / 'Can't read email' link can have the following elements set when added:

  • Text - the words that should be linked

Adding a double opt-in link

A double opt-in link should be added to a double opt-in confirmation email. Whilst we send a default double opt-in confirmation email automatically on your behalf, it's also possible to set up your own triggered one which gets sent immediately after a contact has opted in via a signup form.

When a double opt-in link is clicked on, a message or page confirms the contact's subscription. This process is regarded as best practice in email marketing.

Read more about using double opt-in.

Adding links from one part of the campaign to another

Anchor links can help your recipients to navigate sections of a long campaign by taking them directly to a particular area.

Please note that anchor links are not tracked.

When creating an anchor link, follow these steps:

  1. Create the anchor by first moving to the area the recipient will be taken to when the link is clicked. In our example below we have an option to view a section about an Annual General Meeting, so we move to that area of the campaign and highlight the text we are linking to.

  2. Click on the Link icon located in the ribbon.

  3. Enter a name for this anchor (in this case, we will name it 'agm'). The text you highlighted will also be displayed. You can change this by simply overwriting it. Click on the Insert button to save the changes.

  4. Now highlight the text that will link to the anchor you just created as shown below:

  5. Click on Link and select To existing # anchor.

  6. Select the name of the anchor (in this example 'agm') from the dropdown.
  7. Click on the Insert button to save your changes.
  8. Use the preview tool or send a test email to ensure your links are working correctly.

Adding a document link

If your account level allows it, you can upload documents and other files to your account which can be linked to from one or more campaigns.

When a document link is added to a campaign and clicked on, it will open up the document you've selected for the link.

A document link can have the following elements set when added:

  • Text - the words that should be linked
  • Select a document - select the document that will be linked to

Documents are shown in a folder structure and you can click on the icons to navigate from one folder to another.

Select a document and click Insert to create the link.

If you want to upload a new document, click on the Show document manager link.

In the document manager you can upload new files, delete existing ones and create (and delete) folders to help you to manage your files.

Files must be 10MB or less and can be any of the following file types: .csv, .doc, .docx, .dot, .eps, .gif, .html, .ical, .ics, .indd, .jpg, .mp3, .pdf, .png, .pps, .ppsx, .ppt, .pptx, .pub, .rtf, .txt, .vcf, .vcs, .xls, .xlsx, .xps

Adding a microsite link

If you're using our microsites feature (not available to all account levels), you can add a microsite link to your campaign which, when clicked, opens up the microsite page of your choice.

A microsite link can have the following elements set when added:

  • Text - the words that should be linked
  • Microsite - choose from your list of microsite pages

Adding a landing page link

If you're using our landing pages feature, you can add a landing page link to your campaign which, when clicked, opens up the landing page of your choice.

A landing page link can have the following elements set when added:

  • Text - the words that should be linked
  • Landing page - choose from your list of landing pages; only landing pages that have had already had a link generated will be listed here

Adding a survey/form link

If you're using our surveys and forms tool, you can add a link to your campaign which, when clicked, will open the survey or form of your choice.

A survey or form link can have the following elements set when added:

  • Text - the words that should be linked
  • Survey - choose from your list of surveys and forms

'Link to a survey' not available?

This could be because:

  • Your account doesn't have surveys and forms enabled
  • Your account has surveys and forms enabled, but you have no live surveys or forms available
